NINE in 10 slimmers want a tax on junk food to subsidise the cost of healthy alternatives.

Last week The Lancet medical journal found half of Britons will be obese by 2030 if eating habits continue.

Many unhealthy foods which are high in fat, sugar and salt are often far cheaper than healthy foods like fruit and vegetables.

Jenny Caven, of Slimming World, who conducted a study, said: “It’s clear making healthy foods more affordable to average shoppers would be hugely supported by our members as a way to encourage healthier lifestyles.”
