Summary: A 10 year study into the effective weight loss achieved by a coventional CV workout, came to a startling conclusion

If like me (and probably most people) getting out of a rut takes a conscious effort, it is quite easy to just drift along doing the same old  thing.
And if this apply s to your weight loss exercise routine, then you will probably not be actually getting the  benefit from all your hard work that you thought .
A 10 year study from the States found that the conventional cardio-vascular exercise routines that are recommended by most personal trainers had little effect on "fat burning"in fact they did hardly anything to help with effective weight loss at all.
In the study, a group of obese people were put on a conventional type of CV program, with little or no weight loss recorded .
But before you think that "There is no point in exercising, as it won't help you achieve an effective weight loss", It seems that it is how you carry out your CV workout that will help you to lose weight according to the research.
Instead of just "bashing away " on an exercise bike, treadmill, or however you do your CV workout, the research concluded that after warming up,  pushing yourself as hard as you can for just 30 seconds, then going gently for a minuet, then pushing again for 30 seconds, and repeating this for 9 /10 times then maybe doing some light weight training covering all the muscle groups, will actually help you lose weight.
A cautionary note. if you have not exercised for ages, get the OK from your doctor first, plus get some advice from your local gym on how to use weights without hurting yourself, it is worth noting that resistance training can be done using items readily available at home, such as (plastic)bottles of water or tinned food, there is no need to buy expensive weight training equipment, unless you want to of course.
