A suspected heart attack kills an obese babysitter, who collapsed on top of month old baby, smothering him to death in the process.
Ms Teresa Coffey who weighed 15 stone was found collapsed on top of Michael Baldwin 3rd at his home in New York by his father Michael, who couldn't find him at first till he moved the body.
Police are treating it as a tragic accident.
Obviously until the results of the post mortem are made available, the cause of death is just speculation, but being obese dramatically increases the risk of heart attacks and strokes, and a considerable number of other ailments as well
I am sure all parents of young children will sympathise with the poor parents, to lose any baby is almost unbearable, doubly so in this instance.
Are we to be worried about the dangers to the public at large indirectly caused by the obese?
We see huge trucks driving at speed along our roads, with extremely overweight drivers at the wheel, school bus s, and all manor of public transport also driven by obese drivers.
With obesity increasing steadily year on year, the chances of fatal accidents caused by heart attacks and strokes directly caused by obesity will also increase, should we be concerned about it? And what should be done?
I hope this is a problem that can be addressed, but unfortunately there is not a lot of evidence that the increasing tide of obesity can be turned.
