If you are going abroad for your holidays, there are a few countries that you are more likely to get an upset stomach than others, India being top of the list.
The list of the most risky holiday destinations for getting diarrhoea are:
  1. India         54 percent risk
  2. Egypt        47     " "
  3. Thailand  27     " "
  4. Tunisia    22     " "
  5. Turkey     22      " "
  6. Morocco  20      " "
  7. Mexico     11      " "
  8. Portugal  11      " "
  9. Greece    11      " "
  10. Australia  10     " "
But there are a few ways to reduce the risks, only drink bottled water( And plenty of it to avoid dehyration!), only eat fruit that can be peeled, or take some baby bottle sterilizing fluid and wash the fruit before eating it, and one that is easily overlooked Don't have ice in your drinks! the water the ice is made from is probably full of bugs. Don't eat anything from street vendors,It may smell and look delicious, but the chance of flys settling on exposed food and spreading germs is extremely high. And last but not least, clean your teeth only with your bottled water.
Make sure you take some anti-diarrhoea remedies with you like Imodium, and some re-hydration powders like Dioralyte in case the worst happens
With care, you can still enjoy your exotic holidays by being prepared.
P.S. you can drink alcohol, the brewing process kills the bugs, in the 19th century, most people drank beer before our tap water was made safe, but remember that alcohol will dehydrate you, so you will need to drink plenty of bottled water.
