Do Vegetarians Live Longer? by Laurie Whyman

Summary: Can non vegetarians be just as healthy as vegetarians?

Blog Tags: weight loss

There is a well known saying that "There are lies, dammed lies, and statistics", but vegetarians according to statistics, live longer and are less likely to contract several diseases.
But could this have anything to do with the fact that vegetarians obviously don,t eat processed meat? which has been linked to many diseases by  UK Government scientists.
According to some eminent anthropologists, our early ancestors were living mainly on  fruit, but maybe as our brains evolved and needed more protein for nourishment, our diets  increasingly moved over towards animal protein. The trouble is our digestive systems are not like a typical carnivorous animal and  have not really kept pace with our bigger brains and have not evolved yet to cope with meat, and particularly processed meat.
The health benefits of avoiding processed food and eating fresh produce instead are now widely accepted by dieticians, and if we eat a balanced diet without processed meat, and not too much red meat, then possibly we can be as healthy as vegetarians?and also can help to achieve an effective weight loss.
